Universal Fit Saddle Bag Closures and Rigging

Universal Fit Saddle Bag Closures and Rigging
Ask us what we can make for you.

All of our work is made in-house and designed to work in the toughest conditions.

Inspired by our 5000 mile solo horse journey from Canada to Guatemala – and yes, Roxy is doing great living the semi retired life!

The photos in this post can help you with your rigging set up for your horse travel bags. I’m lucky enough to still have the horse I did my long riding with, and now I spend most of my free time designing, making, and testing horse saddle bags that are literally built like tanks.

One of my biggest challenges when riding far from home was gear failure. And I’m sure you’ve felt the same way…

So, enjoy this post, I hope it serves you well, and please share it with your friends!

Easy shut with velcro
Bag top is secured in multiple ways . 1- via velcro tabs, 2- folded over and attached to high strength loops , 3- rolled over and attached to itself. Bags come with 2 bit snaps, 2 short webbing loops and 1 long webbing snap.

Our webbing loop straps can be used in a variety of ways. To attach the bag to saddle, to use as a carry strap, and to tighten down the load. In this instance, the strap is used to secure the contents of the front sleeves.
The Tank Bag Attachment System
The Universal Tank Bag Attachment System. Fits on any saddle, in any country. Via the soft and strong nylon tubular webbing and webbing loops; bit snaps or carabiners, metal rings and high strength HMPE rope, easy to tie and untie. Attachment rigging is designed with redundancy in mind. WE DON'T USE PLASTIC BUCKLES OR HARDWARE!
Tank Bags are meant to be used anywhere in the world.
PRO-tip on metal strap tightening method... The bidirectional webbing loop made out of metal rings and high strength non-chafing tubular webbing. We use larger metal rings on our saddle rigging to attach to our girth(s). With this set up I was able to tighten and loosen the girth on the fly.
Pommel Bags over the smaller PommelTop Bags
Pommel Side Bags over the smaller PommelTop Bags. For short day trips use the PommelTop bags only for phone water, electrolytes, hoof pick, etc. For longer trips you can attach the arger side Pommel Bags over top and still access the smaller bags. Or you can use the larger bags on their own.
Rigging to fit your horse saddle
We wanted to provide a solution for Long Riders and Weekend Warriors. Most attachment systems use a plastic buckle and snap system, with one male end and one female end attached to fixed points on the bag. We bypassed this type of setup by offering bi-directional web straps that can be rotated and tightened as a loop thru any two tie out points on the saddle bag. The result is a exponentially increased availability of tie out and tightening point, from bag to saddle, bag to itself for overloads or cinching down, or even bag to bag on other side of saddle! Additionally, web slides (as shown in the photo) can be added should you wish to use the bi-directional loop in a unidirectional manne,r and to add a quick release.
The webbing loops with metal web slides are not only used to attach and tighten our travel bags to the saddle, but also to attach the saddle to the girth. After 6 months of solo horse travel we discovered this lightweight and on the fly tightening method after we bought 4 old school belts from a second hand store in Louisiana. I finally retired those belts this summer and made these new ones out of tubular webbing.
When you order your Tank Bag, ask us about the girth latigo options that would work for you. As you may notice we like round rings. We use a western set up with no buckles; we also use center (Y) rigging and or dual girth/ cinch. All set ups are valid as long as the horse stays healthy and you ride in comfort.
